That the other birds stopped their chatter so there was only the one singer to be heard suggests this particular bird in that place and time was a bit special. Had something to say worth listening to as it were.
Thanks Rachel. My mother was obsessed with yellowhammers. I think I'll put up a video of my favourite songbird. It's not a yellowhammer, so you may wonder what it is . . . but not for long.

When we were children my mother would get us out of bed and take us outside to hear the nightingales. The nightingale has always been special for me.
