Visiting an old friend

Tender presence
Now at close of breathing days
Sweet dilemmas
Lost
Forgotten
Happiness no longer there
The long lovely
Whatever gone
And nothing stirring
In the inexorable sluggishness
Of milky tea
  and disinfectant smells
Save an endlessness of time
  and tired eyes

  1. Gwil - this brought tears to my eyes - there is such beauty in your words - it sums up visiting a friend close to death so very well - or at least my experience of it.

  2. Disinfectant smells , from the smell of when I got home and my father's body had been moved to the dining room. My mother had put towels dipped in the stuff around his body in the coffin. Whatever gone.

Nice, made me feel very quiet.

  3. Thanks Pat and Rachel. Time haunts us all.
